During Christmas week, the number of virological tests for Covid-19 soared, with more than three million performed and a growing share of antigenic tests, announced the Directorate of Research, Studies, Evaluation and statistics (Drees) this Thursday.

Between December 21 and 27, 3.02 million virological tests were carried out in France, including 42.2% of antigenic tests, indicates in a press release the Drees, which notes a concentration of these tests the few days before Christmas.

The number of tests multiplied by five

The figure is up sharply compared to the previous week (2.3 million tests, including nearly a third of antigenic tests).

“In two weeks, the number of antigenic tests has almost increased fivefold,” says Drees.

Despite this very significant increase in RT-PCR and antigen tests carried out, the proportion of tests validated in less than 24 hours remains stable compared to the previous week, at 91%.

Between March 1 and December 27, 33.7 million RT-PCR tests and 2.8 million antigenic tests were carried out in France, specifies Drees.
