Pierre Cardin designed style-forming, futuristic garments in the 60s and 70s and became successful with his brand "Pierre Cardin".

He was also inspired by contemporary science fiction series with a focus on space and created, among other things, body-covering tights and knee-length shorts, tunics in plastic material.

He also made early clothes that suited both women and men.

Born in Italy but raised in France, he began his career as a tailor and assistant at the major fashion houses in Paris.

The breakthrough came in 1957 with a series of A-shaped coats and dresses.

Pierre Cardin died on Tuesday, aged 98.
