Chairman of Warner Bros.

Pictures Group Toby Emmerich has confirmed that the studio has begun work on the third installment of the DC Comics Wonder Woman superhero series.

“Now that fans around the world are cheering for Diana Prince — which made Wonder Woman 1984 a great first weekend — we are excited to be able to continue working on her story alongside our very real Wonder Women - Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins.

They will return to finish work on the end of a long-conceived film trilogy, ”said Emmerich.

Patty Jenkins will once again direct and co-write the film, with Gal Gadot playing the lead role.

The statement was made public when it became known the volume of fees for the second film, "Wonder Woman: 1984" for the first weekend in the US box office (the tape was released on the eve of Catholic Christmas).

The box office of the film was $ 16.7 million. In total, in theaters in the States and Canada, the tape earned $ 36.1 million. In the proposed circumstances, these figures are more than solid: "Wonder Woman: 1984" has collected one of the most impressive box office after the introduction of restrictions due to pandemic coronavirus.

To date, 40% of sites are open in the United States.

At the same time, these figures are much more modest than the fees of the first part, which came out on the big screens in the summer of 2017.

Then "Wonder Woman" grossed more than $ 100 million in the first weekend at home, and the overall revenues of the picture are estimated at $ 821.8 million. It was expected that the sequel could earn $ 1 billion.

The box office of Wonder Woman 1984 at the world box office has reached $ 85 million. The film has already been appreciated by viewers from China, Japan, Brazil, Iceland, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal and several other countries.

Russian viewers will be able to see the tape in cinemas from January 14.

It should be borne in mind that on December 24, the film "Wonder Woman: 1984" also became available for viewing on the Warner Media video service, HBO Max.

Due to the restrictions imposed by the coronavirus pandemic, the company decided to release a number of films in cinemas and on the Internet on the same day.

In addition to the second Wonder Woman, they included Dune, Mortal Kombat, Godzilla vs. Kong, The Matrix 4, and a dozen more expected films.

According to Warner Media calculations, on the Friday following the premiere of Wonder Woman, HBO Max's audience spent three times more time on the service than on a normal day.

Directly on the date of the premiere, about half of the users who signed up for a one-time subscription to the service watched the feed.

There are no additional fees for individual tapes, however, in light of the upcoming high-profile premieres, new users cannot take advantage of the free trial period.

The move turned out to be extremely successful for the Internet platform: as executive vice president and general manager of the service Andy Forssell said, “In its first 24 hours after being released on the streaming service HBO Max, the movie Wonder Woman 1984 broke records and exceeded expectations in all key indicators in terms of views and subscriptions ”.

According to Forssell, viewers' interest in the film and the platform in general will continue after the premiere.

“In these very difficult times, it's nice to give families the opportunity to enjoy an inspiring movie at home without the opportunity to watch it in the cinema,” he stressed.

The box office on the first weekend really played a decisive role in the release of the third part.

On December 23, Gal Gadot could not give a concrete answer to the question about the future of the franchise.

“We have no idea.

You never know.

I would love to be in another movie if there is a great storyline and, of course, if Patty Jenkins is the director.

But I don't know.

Let's wait and see, ”the actress said in an interview with Variety.

At the same time, she also noted that a third film would be a good ending to this story.

The date of the premiere of the third part has not yet been announced.

According to Variety, the tape will be released in theaters.
