In the autumn of 2000, she made her entrance into the Swedish book world as a chicklit author with the novel Väninnan.

Since then, Denise Rudberg has released about thirty books and embraced several different genres such as historical novels and elegant crime.

At present, she has sold over four million copies.

Beloved detective hero

Denise Rudberg has mainly made herself known for scratching the surface of luxury life in the areas around Östermalm in her novels, through female main characters with socially high status.

Perhaps the most acclaimed of the main characters, prosecutor Marianne Jidhoff, is also celebrating this year with a ten-year anniversary.

- These are characters who live on in some way.

Readers still hear from her ten, twenty years later and say that it still feels like she is a real friend and exists in reality.

That's what happened to Marianne Jidhoff, she's like one of us, says Denise Rudberg.

Denied by the Swedish Writers' Union

During the early years as a writer, Denise Rudberg says that she had to take some beatings from the critics.

They described her novels as "guilty pleasures" and she was denied membership in the Swedish Writers' Union.

Despite that, she is today one of Sweden's most beloved authors.

- It would have been better to handle it today with all the experience I have now.

But I have had the opportunity to learn an incredible amount in this way.

Will take less shit

In the future, Denise Rudberg is convinced that she will release more book series and venture into new genres.

- I am very happy with my writing.

I have developed a lot and been both foolhardy and brave.

What do you take with you from your 20 years as a writer?

- Taking less and less shit will be the motto going forward, if I look at what has happened backwards.
