China News Service, Hong Kong, December 26. The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Carrie Lam visited the MTR Corporation Limited (MTR) Siu Ho Wan Depot on the 26th.

She said that the development potential of the Siu Ho Wan Depot project is huge, and the relevant departments will fully cooperate to make the project start as soon as possible and further increase the supply of public housing in the future.

Carrie Lam, accompanied by the Secretary for Transport and Housing of the Special Administrative Region Government, Mr. Chen Fan, and Secretary for Development, Mr. Wong Wai Lun, visited the MTR Siu Ho Wan Depot on the same day to listen to MTR Chairman Ouyang Boquan, Chief Executive Officer Kim Chak-Pei and other MTR company representatives Introduce the future housing development plan of the department.

Carrie Lam announced in the 2020 Policy Address that the SAR government has formulated an outline zoning plan for the superstructure development of the MTR Siu Ho Wan Depot. According to the latest assessment, it is expected to provide about 20,000 units in the medium to long term. About half of them are public housing.

This is another railway project that uses railway facilities to develop public housing after the Kornhill Development Project on the Hong Kong Island Line in the 1980s.

Compared with the Kornhill Development Project in the past, the Siu Ho Wan Depot project is more focused on public housing and will account for about half of the overall supply.

The first batch of about 6000 public and private units are expected to move in successively from 2030.

Carrie Lam said that housing is the crux of many problems in Hong Kong, and the core of the housing problem is the lack of land to build houses.

In addition to the eight land supply options recommended by the Land Supply Task Force, the current SAR government has also comprehensively reviewed the uses of existing public facilities and implemented the "single site, multiple uses" development model.

She also encouraged the MTR Corporation to make persistent efforts and use innovative thinking to study other railway land for housing development, so as to better integrate the people's "housing" and "travel" needs.

She also pointed out that at present, the SAR government has found 330 hectares of land for the construction of 316,000 public housing units, which can meet the demand for public housing units in the next 10 years in the 2020 "Long Term Housing Strategy" report.

The aforementioned land does not include the development of the Siu Ho Wan Depot.
