There was an outbreak of group infection in Huaian Section of United Hospital, and at least 15 medical staff and patients were diagnosed or initially confirmed.

Some medical experts came to inspect and believed that there were super-spreaders, one person spreading to 14 people.

  The 59 newly confirmed cases involved 27 men and 32 women, aged between 7 and 91 years old.

Among them, 6 were imported cases, 53 were local cases, including 26 cases of unknown origin, and 27 cases were related cases.

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government gazetted the residents of Block A, Ming Wah Building, 25 A Kung Ngam Road, Shau Kei Wan, to be tested for the new crown virus.

  Ou Jiarong, chief physician of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said that one of the cases of unknown origin lived in Lei Seng Building, Lei Yue Mun Village. This building had been confirmed in 3 units earlier, and a total of 6 cases have been reported. There are 4 units involved. These units are located on different floors and in different directions. The case of one unit is related to the singing and dancing group that was violent earlier, while the source of the cases of the remaining units is unknown.

The authorities will issue a mandatory virus test notice to the building today.

  Ou Jiarong also revealed that another imported case from the UK was found earlier. The virus strain was a mutant virus strain announced by the World Health Organization.

The confirmed case came to Hong Kong from the United Kingdom on the 11th of this month and has been under quarantine at the hotel since arriving in Hong Kong. He developed fever on the 20th and was diagnosed after being sent to hospital.

The confirmed case did not have any close contacts after returning to Hong Kong. He is currently in hospital and is in stable condition.

  In addition, there was an outbreak of group infection in the Huai'an ward of United Hospital. After 3 patients admitted to the Huai'an ward were diagnosed, the hospital arranged for the relevant patients and staff to undergo virus testing.

Liu Jiaxian, Chief Administrative Manager (Quality and Standard) of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority, announced that seven more patients were initially diagnosed, and an 83-year-old female patient who had been discharged from the hospital was diagnosed after a second test.

Four staff members were also initially diagnosed and their condition is stable.

So far, at least 15 patients and medical staff in the Huaian Section of the United Hospital have been diagnosed or initially confirmed.

  On the same day, an expert consultant from the SAR government visited the scene and expressed belief that one of the 84-year-old female patients was a super-spreader. After she was admitted to the ward, she spread the air to 14 others.

According to information from United Hospital, the 84-year-old suspected super-spreader was admitted to the accident and emergency department on the 15th.

Experts also pointed out that some patients in the ward are older and are still under observation. It is not ruled out that patients or medical staff will continue to confirm the diagnosis.

  Liu Jiaxian announced that there are still 921 confirmed patients in 23 public hospitals and AsiaWorld-Expo community treatment facilities. Among them, 55 are in critical condition, 65 are in serious condition, and the remaining 801 are stable. (Finish)
