Regarding the draft of a new rule that includes setting a numerical standard for the number of dogs and cats that pet companies can raise for the first time, the Ministry of the Environment has told existing businesses to prevent dogs and cats from losing their place. Has indicated a policy of establishing transitional measures such as the gradual application of regulations.

In October, the Ministry of the Environment set a new ministerial ordinance to set numerical standards for the size of cages and the number of dogs and cats that can be bred per employee for the first time in an attempt to eliminate businesses that raise animals in harsh environments. We showed the proposal and listened to the opinions from the general public toward the start of regulation from June next year.

As a result, nearly 170,000 opinions were received in about a month, and while there were calls for stricter standards, there were many opinions calling for loosening the standards, such as "being forced out of business." about it.

Based on this, the Ministry of the Environment announced at a meeting of experts held on the 25th that it would take transitional measures to prevent dogs and cats from losing their place.

Among them, regarding the size of the cage, a grace period of one year will be set for the existing business operator, and it will be applied from June next year, and the number that can be bred per employee will be applied to the existing business operator. The application of the above will be started again in June next year, and initially, the number of animals that can be bred will be increased from the current plan, and it will be gradually tightened over two years.

This policy was generally approved by the Council of Experts, and the Ministry of the Environment will start regulations that include such transitional measures in June next year.
