The spokesman said that considering that South Africa has discovered a new, highly contagious variant of the virus, the SAR government needs to take strict measures to restrict people who have stayed in South Africa from boarding and entering Hong Kong.

  The SAR government has also tightened the regulations under Chapters 599C and Chapter 599E. All arrivals who have stayed outside of China on the day of arrival in Hong Kong or 21 days before (regardless of arriving at Hong Kong via an airport or land port) are required to undergo a designated quarantine The hotel is under mandatory quarantine for 21 days.
