In "Sans Rendez-vous", doctor Jimmy Mohamed responds to Geoffrey, a listener who had a bad digestive experience last year during the holidays, because of a lobster.

To avoid further disappointment, the doctor therefore delivers his tips and takes the opportunity to take stock of indigestion and food poisoning.

This is unfortunately one of the possible consequences of the (too) copious meals which punctuate the end of year celebrations: indigestion.

In "Without Appointment", Doctor Jimmy Mohamed takes stock of pathologies and gives his advice to avoid having a bad memory of these end-of-year celebrations, which already promises to be special because of the health context.

The slightest mistake can be "paid cash" in our stomachs

"Indigestion, even food poisoning, is quite frequent during the holidays. We will eat a little more, make one or more excess, and we will handle fragile foods, eggs, meat, fish, fruits of sea ... And the slightest mistake pays cash in our belly.

But you have to differentiate between indigestion and food poisoning.

The first is discomfort: you eat more than usual and you will see a massive intake of fat.

As a result, you will feel bloated and have a bit of diarrhea the next day or two.

But in the case of food poisoning, it is a food that does not pass because it is spoiled.

In this case, it is an infection.

There are virals, in particular because of norvovirus, the most common, but also bacteria.

They can be caused by Listeria, Campylobacter, salmonella ... In general, if several people have digestive symptoms, it is an intoxication.

Poisoning sometimes serious, even fatal in rare cases

However, symptoms can vary from person to person.

For example, some will vomit within an hour.

These people have the advantage of feeling much better afterwards, since the virus or bacteria does not have time to pass into your stomach.

For others, the damaged foreign body will enter the intestine causing abdominal pain, cramps, very watery diarrhea and sometimes blood in the stool.

And some infections can be serious, which is why you need to watch this closely.

If the food infection affects an elderly person with multiple diseases, they will quickly become dehydrated and this can be serious.

Ditto in the case of a young child.

But the severity of the infection also depends on the bacteria or virus that caused it: if it is a small staphylococcus, it is not very serious.

However, you have other infections, such as those caused by listeria monocytogenes which lead to death in 25% of cases.

But it is extremely rare, only 0.1% of food poisoning.

Festive meal: what to do in case of food poisoning?

Pay attention to the cold chain

To make sure you spend the holidays in a digestive way, you have to be careful with food storage.

We also do not hesitate to cook food well and we pay attention to the expiration date.

Also pay attention to the cold chain: often the mistake is made of leaving food out of the fridge for too long, especially leftovers from the next day.

We must therefore remember to put food back in the fridge as quickly as possible and not leave it lying around on the table.
