In the trial of the murder of the Kassel District President Walter Lübcke, the Federal Prosecutor's Office has demanded a life sentence for the main defendant Stephan Ernst.

"The charges have been confirmed," said Chief Public Prosecutor Dieter Killmer on Tuesday before the Higher Regional Court in Frankfurt am Main.

The prosecution also wants to determine the severity of the guilt, which makes early release after 15 years unlikely.

Ernst was guilty of the murder of Lübcke, said Killmer in his plea.

Both this act and the allegation of the attempted murder of an Iraqi refugee in 2016 were “right-wing extremist attacks”.

The co-defendant Markus H. contributed to the act.

He knew of Ernst's “deeply rooted hatred” of Lübcke and supported him in his rejection - even if Ernst acted alone on the evening of the crime.

Ernst was not alone in his hatred, said Killmer.

H. is also a "racist".

Since his release from pre-trial detention in October, H. has had to answer for a violation of the Weapons Act.

Several hours are set for the prosecution's demands for punishment.

The verdict is scheduled for January 26th.
