In 2011, the Provincial Institute of Archaeology and other related units carried out systematic archaeological investigations and excavations on the Shimao site, and finally confirmed that the Shimao site was a city site from the late Longshan to the early Xia period with an area of about 4 million square meters. Composed of the city and the outer city, it is the largest prehistoric city site in China and even East Asia.
