Currently 2,718 people (including 123 admitted in the last 24 hours) are treated in the intensive care units, against 2,764 the day before.

Emmanuel Macron, tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday, presented on Saturday "a stable state of health" compared to the day before and the results of his clinical and paraclinical examinations "were reassuring," said the Elysee in a press release.

The Head of State, in solitary confinement in the official residence of La Lanterne in Versailles, "still presents the same symptoms of the Covid-19 disease (fatigue, cough, aches) which in no way prevent him from fulfilling his functions ", adds this brief press release, signed by Dr. Jean-Christophe Perrochon, Chief Medical Officer of the Presidency of the Republic.

More than 15 countries authorize Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine

Switzerland became the first state in continental Europe on Saturday to authorize a vaccine against Covid-19, Pfizer / BioNTech.

"We can start vaccination in the coming days," announced the Minister of Health, Alain Berset.

Switzerland's decision comes after authorizations for the same vaccine from more than 15 countries, including the United States, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, United Kingdom, Jordan, Singapore and Mexico.

A week after Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna obtained emergency clearance from the US Medicines Agency (FDA) on Friday.

The first doses of the vaccine from the Moderna laboratory began to be sent on Saturday to various points in the United States, joining that of the Pfizer / BioNTech alliance in the huge vaccination campaign that began on Monday.

UK and Italy reconfigure

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the reconfinement on Sunday of London and the south-east of England.

A decision made due to the spread of a new variant of the coronavirus.

Detected in the UK, it can spread faster, British health authorities said on Saturday, stressing that they were still trying to determine whether it was also more deadly.

"It appears that this spread is now being fueled by a new variant of the virus," which is transmitted "much more easily," Boris Johnson said at a press conference.

"There is no indication that it is more deadly or that it causes a more severe form of the disease" or that it reduces the effectiveness of vaccines, he added, however.

The Dutch government suspended all passenger flights from the UK on Sunday.

For its part, Italy will be confined for the end of year celebrations, from December 21 to January 6, announced Friday the head of government Giuseppe Conte after a council of ministers.

"Our experts fear that the contagion curve will increase during the Christmas period", justified the chief executive.

During this period, it will be prohibited to travel from one region to another, including to go to a second home, except for health or professional reasons.

The retail business, including bars and restaurants, will be closed.

In theory, only one outing per household and per day will be tolerated.
