An investigation was opened Sunday after the discovery of "racist and hateful inscriptions" on the door of a mosque in Beaucaire, in the Gard, announced Sunday the prefect, Didier Lauga, condemning "unacceptable facts".

"In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the door of the Al Salam prayer room (...) in Beaucaire, was covered with racist and hateful inscriptions", reports the representative of the State in a press release, calling "not to not respond to these shameful provocations ”.

"An investigation was immediately opened to identify and apprehend the perpetrator (s) so that they could be brought before the judicial authorities," he said.

The city of Beaucaire, led by Julien Sanchez, member of the National Rally (RN) of Marine Le Pen, condemned, on Facebook, "with the greatest firmness (this) tag targeting the Muslim religion".

"Whether they concern Catholics, Jews, Muslims but also of course any belief or political opinion, threats and insults have no place in our city and in a democracy", wrote the town hall in a press release hoping that "the author of these inscriptions will be identified and found quickly".
