Taijiquan application was successful, the Beijing News talked to the beneficiaries of Taijiquan birthplace and the descendants of Chen's Taijiquan

The ultimate goal of the application is to make more people love Tai Chi

On the evening of December 17, Beijing time, the "Tai Chi" declared by my country was included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, causing concern.

Public information shows that Tai Chi originated from Chenjiagou, Wen County, Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, with a history of more than 300 years.

How to prepare for Taijiquan application?

In the face of previous doubts about the Ma Baoguo incident, the "master of Hunyuan Xingyi Taijiquan", how did the "Taijiquan community" comment?

The Beijing News successively interviewed Yan Shuangjun, the vice chairman of the Wenxian CPPCC and former deputy leader of the leading group for the declaration of human intangible cultural heritage of Wenxian Taijiquan, and Chen Bin, the twelfth-generation successor of Chen Taijiquan.

Yan Shuangjun: The spread of Tai Chi depends on language communication

  Taijiquan "seven schools" common application

The Beijing News: When did Taijiquan apply for a legacy?

Yan Shuangjun: In May 2006, Tai Chi was included in the National Intangible Heritage List.

In September 2008, I received a notice and was transferred to Jiaozuo City to participate in the application of Taijiquan for the "List of Representative Works of Human Intangible Cultural Heritage".

Time was tight at that time, and the Henan Provincial Department of Culture also sent experts to help us analyze and judge, fill in the declaration text, and prepare to collect the application materials.

We went to Beijing to accept the guidance of experts from the Ministry of Culture.

Beijing News: At that time, how was the plan for the application for heritage prepared?

Yan Shuangjun: The plan has been revised and improved too many times.

If the declaration was not passed in the previous year, and the declaration could not be made within four years, we felt that the time was rushed and we would withdraw the declaration first.

In 2009, we revised the text in detail and re-produced a promotional video for the inscription, ready to declare again.

However, there were new regulations that year, and a country can only report two items, and Tai Chi was not included.

Later, the rules of application for heritage changed again. A country can only apply for one project a year, and one project for the next two years.

Later, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism included Taijiquan in the 2019 Human Intangible Cultural Heritage Representative List application work, and commissioned the China Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center to complete the relevant materials for the Taijiquan application led by the Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Revise and report to UNESCO on time.

The environment at this time is different from 10 years ago.

In 2006, Chen-style Taijiquan and Yang-style Taijiquan were included in the National Intangible Heritage List. In 2008, Wu-style Taijiquan was included in the list. In 2014, He-style Taijiquan, Wu-style Taijiquan, Li-style Taijiquan and Wang Qihe were included in the list. Tai Chi is also included in the list.

In 2018, we united seven communities (genres) to jointly apply for the legacy.

In the past 10 years, the requirements of the United Nations and the filing of the text of the application have been constantly changing, and we have continued to supplement and improve the application materials in accordance with the requirements.

Henan Taijiquan Academy is being built to cultivate talents

Beijing News: Wenxian County is known as the birthplace of Taijiquan. After announcing the success of the application, how has the local response been?

Yan Shuangjun: Everyone is very happy and feels well deserved.

A celebration organized by everyone.

Beijing News: The success of this application, what changes do you think will bring to Wen County?

Yan Shuangjun: The most obvious is to promote the development of cultural tourism.

In addition, the production of Tai Chi clothing, swords, guns, swords and halberds used in Tai Chi practice can also promote the development of clothing and other industries.

The Beijing News: After you successfully apply for a legacy, how do you continue to develop Tai Chi?

Yan Shuangjun: Wen County is building a professional undergraduate school and technical school for Taijiquan to train high-quality Taijiquan coaches and talents. We are ready for this.

The wider the spread of Taijiquan, the higher the requirements for teachers. Moreover, the spread of Taijiquan must rely on language communication. Only through posture, sometimes it is not possible to grasp the mystery.

Wen County is building Henan Taijiquan Academy, and the first phase of the project is planned to 512 mu of land.

In addition, Jiaozuo has excavated, collected and sorted out historical documents and precious historical materials related to Taijiquan, and established a Taijiquan database.

The Beijing News: What are your suggestions for promoting Tai Chi to the world in the future?

Yan Shuangjun: There are still great obstacles in communicating and explaining Tai Chi in accurate language.

I hope that the inheritors of Taijiquan will also learn other languages in the future and express the meaning of Chinese in accurate foreign languages.

I also hope that professional departments will conduct research on these and make standard translations, just like dictionaries.

The application is not the end. The ultimate goal of the application is to let more people understand, recognize and love Tai Chi and spread Tai Chi, so that Tai Chi can serve the health of more people and the harmonious development of society.

Chen Bin: Management should be strengthened to standardize the development of Taijiquan

Tai Chi carries Tai Chi culture

Beijing News: When did you learn Tai Chi?

How many apprentices have you received now?

Chen Bin: Taijiquan originated in Chenjiagou Village, Wenxian County, Henan Province. I am from Chenjiagou. I have been learning Taijiquan from my father Chen Zhenglei since I was 5 years old. He is the representative national inheritor of Taijiquan.

My growth experience is the same as that of my peers. I used my spare time to practice Tai Chi since I was a child, instead of giving up my studies to inherit family learning.

From the first time I opened the door to accept apprentices in 2015, I have accepted three batches of students, including three foreigners.

They are martial arts enthusiasts, often come to Henan to study, and also invite me to give lectures abroad.

Beijing News: How to become an inheritor of Taijiquan?

Chen Bin: After Taijiquan became a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006, the inheritors must report it level by level, from the county level to the city level, to the provincial and national levels.

Provincial inheritors declare to the national level, there are clear requirements, there must be more than 6 generations of clear teacher-inherit relationship.

Before that, for hundreds of years in the family, representative characters will emerge in each generation. The inheritors must comprehensively consider the individual's technical level, comprehensive strength, and broad social cognition.

Beijing News: The seven communities of Chen-style Taijiquan, He-style Taijiquan, Yang-style Taijiquan, Wu-style Taijiquan, Wu-style Taijiquan, Li-style Taijiquan, Wang Qi and Taijiquan ( Genre), what is the difference?

Chen Bin: Since Taijiquan was created in Chenjiagou Village in the middle of the 17th century, many schools named after other surnames or names have been developed on the basis of Chen Taijiquan. There are more than 80 sets of martial arts, weapon routines and more than 20 Kind of pushing hands.

During the development process, some genres simplified their actions and removed some technical actions.

Although the routines and movements are different, they never change. The general principles and basic principles of Taijiquan must be followed by everyone.

Beijing News: In addition to the competitive nature, what other contents do you understand about Tai Chi?

Chen Bin: Tai Chi carries Tai Chi culture and inherits the cultural genes of the Chinese nation.

Taijiquan contains the yin and yang cycle, the traditional Chinese philosophy of the harmony of man and nature, and the concept of health preservation, which enrich people's understanding of the laws of the universe, nature and human body.

For example, the cycle of yin and yang represents the dialectical relationship between the two seemingly opposed, but in fact unified.

Taijiquan also embodies this concept, such as requiring the combination of rigidity and softness, alternating speed and slowness, opening and closing of the hands in a consistent manner, and clear distinction between the real and the virtual.

It is recommended to strengthen management and let Taijiquan develop standardly

Beijing News: How can people of different ages benefit from Tai Chi?

Chen Bin: Tai Chi practitioners are spread all over the country, and they are "circled fans" overseas. In the past, it was promoted through word of mouth by practitioners. After you strengthen your body, you will share it with your family and friends.

After long-term practice, many middle-aged and elderly groups experience physical comfort and health.

Nowadays, scientific research institutions use modern biomedicine to interpret the health-preserving mechanism and effects of Taijiquan, and study its improvement on the respiratory system, digestive system, and nervous system.

Beijing News: Ma Baoguo, who previously claimed to be the "master of Hunyuan Xingyi Taijiquan", has attracted attention.

Have you noticed this?

Chen Bin: In the past few years, there have indeed been some incidents of using Tai Chi to sensationalize. Now there are too many practitioners, and amateurs have started their sects. This chaos is driven by interests.

Anyone with one and a half tricks can have a market and can fool people.

This kind of incident may cause the outside world to misunderstand Tai Chi.

Beijing News: What do you think is the significance of the successful application of Taijiquan, and how to promote its better development in the future?

Chen Bin: The application for cultural heritage has successfully expanded the influence of Tai Chi.

As a cultural symbol with Chinese elements, I believe that Tai Chi can be further promoted in the next step. I hope that more people can share Tai Chi and share health.

In addition, I also suggest that the competent authorities increase management efforts to standardize the development of Tai Chi.
