This year, the Library of Congress chose to list

The Dark Knight

in the National Film Registry.

Every year since 1988, 25 films have been selected on the basis of their “cultural, historical or aesthetic” importance and then added to this register in order to draw attention to the conservation of cinematographic heritage.

An honor which obviously delighted Christopher Nolan.

"It's not only a great honor for everyone who worked on

The Dark Knight

, it's also a tribute to all of the amazing artists and writers who have worked on the great Batman mythology over the past decades," he told

Variety

.

Diversity in the spotlight

In addition to

The Dark Knight

, films such as

Shrek

,

Grease

,

The Blues Brothers

,

Minesweepers

and

Clockwork

Orange

have been added to the register.

Very varied works that reflect the will of the Library of Congress to consecrate the diversity of American cinema, with the presence of nine films directed by women and seven by filmmakers of color.

“With the inclusion of filmmakers from diverse backgrounds, we are not trying to set records.

Rather, it is about setting the record straight by highlighting the amazing contributions of women and people of color to American cinema, despite the often insurmountable obstacles they face, ”explained the Librarian of Congress. Carla Hayden.
