  • In Hauts-de-France, the number of contaminations is stagnating, or even increasing.

  • The increase in hospitalizations raises fears of resuscitation admissions.

  • The Regional Health Agency has asked hospitals to stop reducing additional beds in sheaves.

A short respite.

It has been barely three days that we can once again circulate during the day without certification that the news of the coronavirus epidemic is already bad.

One week before Christmas, the Hauts-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) warns of the deterioration of the health situation in most of the departments of the region.

"The worsening of the epidemic situation is reflected in the entire south of the region by a stabilization of the number of Covid patients in intensive care," said the ARS, this Friday, in a press release.

To sum up, today there are as many people who are admitted to intensive care as there are people who leave it.

A count that worries the health authority because of the approach of the end of the year holidays.

The number of contaminations no longer decreases, or even increases

Incidence rates, which had also fallen sharply, are now in a period of stagnation in most departments in the region.

In Aisne, the indicator even shows a "rapid increase in contamination" to 180 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, while the national average stands at 118.

Logically, the number of hospitalized Covid patients is also increasing, especially in Oise, Somme and Aisne.

To date, 2,506 people are hospitalized in the region, including 265 in intensive care according to the latest figures from Public Health France.

"This epidemic dynamic […] gives rise to fears of new admissions to intensive care in the coming days", recognizes the ARS.

Thus, to anticipate a possible influx of seriously ill patients, the health authority is asking hospitals in the region not to reduce their capacity in additional beds in intensive care.

For all Hauts-de-France, this capacity, private and public hospitals combined, must be maintained at 600 beds, recommends the ARS.
