The telephone operator SFR (Altice group) will launch its 5G service in Lyon on Monday, ignoring the reluctance of the ecological municipality, which wanted to delay the deployment of this technology.

The announcement was made this Friday by SFR CEO Alain Weill, during a press videoconference dedicated to the deployment of fiber in Isère.

At the end of September, the Lyon city council, controlled since June by the Greens and their left-wing allies, had adopted a wish calling for a moratorium on the establishment of the new infrastructure necessary for 5G services.

City services specified that Mayor Grégory Doucet, informed by the CEO of SFR, “took note” of his decision “because he cannot oppose it”.

"But he recalled that he asks all operators for strong signals on their social and societal responsibilities," added the city management.

Grégory Doucet also continues "to demand, as the citizens' convention did, a public debate on 5G", the usefulness of which is disputed by some.
