In a press release from Viaplay, which produces the series together with Zentropa and DR, von Trier makes a long presentation about "The Kingdom of Exodus", which should be seen as a stand-alone work.

Whether Exodus in practice means exit or entry depends on the angle from which the border is viewed, but the word simply describes that a larger number of individuals collectively cross a pencil line.

Why?

... There has been an imbalance between good and evil! ”, Says the Danish director.

"Kingdom Exodus" will have new characters and actors.

The first season aired in 1994

"The Kingdom" premiered in 1994 and takes place at Rigshospitalet Hospital in Copenhagen.

In the main roles, Swedish Ernst-Hugo Järegård appeared, as the Danish-hating chief physician Stig Helmer and Danish Kirsten Rolffes in the role of the patient Sigrid Drusse.

Three years later came the sequel "Kingdom II".

Both seasons consisted of four episodes.

Lars von Trier planned to make a third, but since Ernst-Hugo Järegård died in 1998 and Kirten Rolffe's two years later, it did not happen.

That a third season will now be welcomed by several in the industry.

Not in harmony

Although von Trier does not reveal many concrete details about the plot in the new season, it is clear that the Swedish and Danish systems are still not in harmony with each other in the series - and that the curse that rests over the "Kingdom" is not broken.

Viewers must therefore be prepared to "take the good with the bad", with which Lars von Trier used to end the programs in the series.

"Riket exodus" is a collaboration between Nordic Entertainment Group, Danmarks Radio and von Trier's company Zentropa.

The series is expected to premiere on the streaming service Viaplay in 2022 and will be shown on DR for some time afterwards.
