9.45am: Mike Pence will be vaccinated on Friday, Joe Biden probably next week

US Vice President Mike Pence will be vaccinated Friday "in public" against Covid-19

after the launch of Pfizer BioNTech's vaccine on Monday.

Joe Biden, the president-elect, is expected to do so next week, according to CNN and Politico.

American leaders want to lead by example without giving the impression that they are taking advantage of their status.

"The president is ready to be vaccinated and will do so as soon as his medical team deems it appropriate," said spokesperson Kayleigh McEnany.

“But his priority is the workers who are on the front line”.
