The German health authorities reported 26,923 new infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) in the morning.

However, the RKI pointed out that, for technical reasons, around 3,500 cases were not transmitted from Baden-Württemberg.

This means that the number of new infections is around 30,400.

Last Thursday (December 10th) 23,679 new infections were reported.

The seven-day incidence, which is crucial for assessing the situation - the new infections reported per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days - fell slightly to 179.2 by Thursday.

On Wednesday the value had reached a high of 179.8.

The RKI has counted 1,406,161 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany since the beginning of the pandemic (as of December 17, 00:00).

It is estimated that around 1,047,600 people have now recovered.

The nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.98 according to the RKI status report on Wednesday.

This means that 100 infected people infect 98 more people.

The value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

Only when it is below 1 for a longer period does it decrease.
