• Controversy: Upset in the National Dance Company for the promotion of a dancer related to the director

  • Interview with Joaquín de Luz "I am going to give cane to the unions and Inaem"

The Ministry of Culture has opened an

investigation

to determine if the dancer Kayoko Everhart enjoyed

favorable treatment

in the opposition for which she was promoted to the leading figure of the National Dance Company (CND) last month.

This rise to star of the public company was produced through a contest whose jury was chaired by the director of the CND and

current sentimental partner of the dancer

, Joaquín de Luz.

The investigation has been promoted as a result of the information revealed by EL MUNDO a few days ago about the appointment of Everhart as the first figure.

According to various sources consulted by this newspaper,

the dancer and the president of the court that approved her promotion had a romantic relationship prior

to said decision, although Everhart did not make the engagement public until a few days later.

The National Institute of Performing Arts (Inaem), the public body that manages the creation units of the Ministry of Culture and Sports, has been the one that has promoted the

investigation on this selection process

and the one that has elevated it to the Technical Inspection of Work of the Ministry, as revealed this Monday by Cadena Ser.

If the investigation by the Ministry led by José Manuel Rodríguez Uribes concluded that the relationship between the two was prior to the selection process, as several sources affirm to EL MUNDO,

the court's decision could be challenged or invalidated

.

The court chaired by the director of the CND approved that Kayoko Everhart was the "ideal" candidate for the top position on November 5, and only 12 days later she sent a message to the WhatsApp group shared by the dancers of the CND confirming what he had already confessed to some colleagues and that the rest already suspected.

"As some of you already know, I am in a relationship with Joaquín,"

wrote the new CND star.

"I am going to leave this group so that you can [sic] speak calmly about your things. Feel free to contact me if you need my opinion or vote on any matter," Everhart added in that communication to his colleagues.

The position of the first female figure did not exist in the CND, it was Joaquín de Luz himself who proposed its creation, as he confessed to this newspaper.

"There was the option to bring in a great international figure from the US," he

explained in reference to Sarah Lane, one of the stars of the American Ballet Theater, known for dubbing Natalie Portman's dance scenes in the 2010 film

Black Swan

.

"She was chosen, but she did not accept the economic conditions", according to De Luz, "then the second choice of the jury, and by unanimous vote of the entire jury, was Kayoko".

Joaquín de Luz also affirms that his romantic relationship with Everhart began "a few days after" the court's decision, and attributes the great discomfort on the part of the company to

envy

.

"In the world of dance there are many people whose career does not reach where their ego reaches", explains the director, "then they throw stones and try to boycott the work of others; it happens in all companies, I'm used to it", he says.
