A priori, it was not a Spanish forest ranger who alone had the skin of the Cachou bear, found dead in early April in the Val d'Aran, on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees.

The higher court of justice of Catalonia has just partially lifted the secrecy of the investigation into the investigation, indicating that there were six suspects in all, including the forest ranger.

His press release does not say revenge if the trail of death by poisoning, mentioned from the start, was confirmed by the autopsy.

The corpse of the plantigrade did not present any visible wounds in the photos shown.

The preferred track would be that of a sort of plot against this six-year-old bear which, it must be admitted, multiplied predations, particularly on horses.

He was implicated in the death of at least five equines.

And, in August 2019, the Val d'Aran authorities requested its immediate withdrawal from the massif.

A dark year

Two other bears died this year in the Pyrenees: an unidentified female found killed by gunshot in June in Ariège, and Sarousse, shot by a hunter in Aragon (Spain) at the end of November.

The associations for the defense of plantigrades call for a rapid replacement of the three animals to ensure the maintenance of this protected species in the Pyrenees.
