On Thursday, during a press conference, Prime Minister Jean Castex confirmed that a curfew would indeed come into force from December 15.

But, he said, it will start at 8 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. as planned so far.

The curfew will come into effect from December 15, but will start at 8:00 p.m., and not at 9:00 p.m. as planned so far due to the health situation, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Thursday.

This curfew "will be strictly controlled with limited possibilities of exemption," he said during a press conference.

This curfew will also apply during New Years Eve on December 31, contrary to what the government had initially envisaged, added Jean Castex.

This New Year's Eve "concentrates all the ingredients for an epidemic rebound", and "if the circulation had continued to decrease sharply, we could have assumed this risk, but this is not the case" and we must "respect the rule of curfew, stay at home, therefore, on December 31, "said the head of government.
