Zhang Guimei's 12-year home visit

"Ouch -" Zhang Guimei snorted in pain, severe rheumatoid diseases rubbing her body.

Every time she sat on a lower stool, she could only stand up slowly with the support of the students and parents.

"Ms. Zhang, take a drink and take a break?" the parents of the students asked distressedly.

"There is no time. I have to go to several student homes." Zhang Guimei smiled and waved his hand covered with plasters.

With the support of colleagues and village officials, Zhang Guimei walked down the country road and walked arduously along the mountain path to the student's home.

When bidding farewell, she walked onto the road again with the support of the students and parents, dragging her aching legs into the car...

This is the scene when Zhang Guimei, the head of the Huaping Girls Senior High School in Lijiang, Yunnan and the head of the Huaping County Children’s Welfare Institute, visited the students’ homes during the National Day this year.

This year, Zhang Guimei has been named a model of Yunling and a model of national teaching and educating.

However, her work and life have not changed. She still wakes up at 5:30 in the morning to inspect the school and rests at 1:00 in the evening; she still visits students at home during holidays, especially during winter vacation and National Day. She visits the mountain roads at home almost every day.

A difficult home visit

In the first few years, Zhang Guimei went to visit home on the mountain by herself, and fell asleep by the side of the road due to overwork.

She tried renting a car by herself, riding horses and motorcycles, and broke her ribs twice.

Later, the county sent a car to help her visit her home, but almost every student's home still had a small walk to walk.

"In the past, Teacher Zhang was able to walk wildly, but later became more and more ill, and some difficult sections needed assistance. This year, there were more times when assistance was needed." said Wang Xiuli, a reporter from Huaping Rong Media Center who has been following Zhang Guimei's home visits.

From October 2 to 7 this year, Zhang Guimei visited 37 village groups in Rongjiang Town, Shilongba Town, Xingquan Town and Chuanfang Township in Huaping County and visited 39 rural student families in 6 days. Visited six or seven student families every day.

The farthest home visit is to the home of Luo Qingqing (a pseudonym), a senior high school student.

After driving more than 40 kilometers to Huarong Village in Chuanfang Township, Zhang Guimei had to walk more than half an hour uphill to Luo Qingqing's house.

With the support of her colleagues and Luo Qingqing, Zhang Guimei climbed the hill step by step, and stopped for a few minutes to catch her breath.

When passing a shallow creek, she could no longer lift her legs to cross, and could only drag her feet across the water.

Since the establishment of Huaping Girls High School in 2008, for 12 years, every senior year of high school and every rural student, Zhang Guimei has to use his vacation to visit home as much as possible.

She is not from Lijiang, but she has traveled all over Lijiang.

Her footprints cover the families of about 1,552 students, and she travels more than 110,000 kilometers.

Zhang Guimei sent 1,804 poor mountain girls out of Dashan and sent them to university.

The girls' high school she founded has a 100% admission rate for all previous high school graduates, and this year's college entrance examination has achieved the best results, 70 of 159 candidates have one copy.

However, Zhang Guimei is still not reconciled. No student has been admitted to Tsinghua and Peking University.

She still drags the sick body to visit home, she wants to understand the situation of each student's family, to relieve each student's worries, let the students work harder, next year's college entrance examination for a beautiful battle.

The principal is a "psychiatrist"

Huaping Girls High School does not have a full-time psychologist.

The school teachers joked: "Principal Zhang Guimei is a psychologist."

The stressful high school study life and the shadow of family poverty often make some students mentally depressed and their academic performance declines.

Whenever encountering such a situation, Zhang Guimei not only enlightened the students patiently, but also personally visited home to understand the family reasons behind the students.

She can't let any child drop out of school.

Zhang Guimei lives in the student dormitory every night.

A girl in the first grade was depressed and her academic performance declined.

Zhang Guimei let her live with herself and often enlighten her.

I learned that the girl’s parents often fight, and the girl is often abused by her father.

Zhang Guimei went to her home in the village three times to mediate for her parents, and finally reconciled the whole family. The little girl smiled and studied harder.

"If I want to save this child, I must save her parents and her family!" Zhang Guimei said.

"Chen Xiaoqin (pseudonym) has only scored more than 390 points in the recent exam. What is the reason for this score?" Zhang Guimei came to the home of Chen Xiaoqin, a senior high school student in Huarong Village, Chuanfang Township this year during his National Day home visit.

Chen Xiaoqin's family is a poor household. His mother is mentally ill. His father was helped by the village and worked as a cleaner in the village.

Zhang Guimei understood Chen Xiaoqin's heart disease and kindly encouraged her: "Everyone is helping your family. There is a school subsidy for your living expenses at school. You don't need to worry about your family. You should go all out and concentrate on studying."

In the past 12 years, no student at Huaping Girls’ High School has dropped out of school due to poverty, and there has been no student suicide or self-harm.

Over the past 12 years, the home visits of every student and family know the joys and sorrows of Zhang Guimei.

Timely rain for poor students

The vast majority of students in Huaping Girls’ High School come from poor rural families, and the shadow of family poverty has a great impact on children.

During the home visit, Zhang Guimei not only helped the students, but also often helped the students' families and even helped the whole family get rid of poverty.

Wen Lili and Wen Pingping (pseudonym) of Huarong Village in Chuanfang Township are senior third and first senior students of Huaping Girls’ High School.

The two sisters’ home is not only poor, but their father’s eyes are seriously ill and cannot be treated at the county hospital. They need to go to the neighboring Panzhihua Hospital for treatment. However, they have been unable to travel due to financial difficulties.

When visiting their home on National Day this year, Zhang Guimei paid 500 yuan to the father of the two sisters on the spot, so that he could go to the doctor as soon as possible.

Zhang Guimei saw that there was a dilapidated house in the house of the two sisters, which was very dangerous for people to enter and exit, and immediately proposed that it should be demolished as soon as possible.

Li Guimei, the mayor of Chuanfang Township, who accompanied the home visit, said that the township would help demolish the house and help him apply for the minimum security guarantee from the civil affairs department.

The two sisters and their parents were moved, and the whole family helped Zhang Guimei out of the village.

In the past 12 years, Zhang Guimei's expenses for supporting students in needy families have come from rewards and subsidies given to her by governments at all levels, as well as donations from all walks of life.

She hopes to bring these cares to the children of girls' high school.

"Many of the honors I have received are collective honors for teachers in impoverished mountainous areas. The party and the people have not forgotten the teachers in impoverished mountainous areas, warming the hearts of teachers and students, and inspiring us to work harder in education in impoverished mountainous areas." Zhang Guimei is sincere. Say.
