A positive corona test on a cruise "to nowhere", which led to a complete lockdown on the ship, turned out to be a false alarm.

Another test on the affected passenger showed that he was not infected with the virus, the Singapore authorities announced on Thursday.

Because of the alleged fall on board the ship, 1680 passengers and 1148 crew members were not allowed to leave their cabins for hours.

The “Quantum of the Seas” had to break off its four-day round trip without a stop after three days.

She returned to Singapore early on Wednesday because an 83-year-old passenger allegedly tested positive for the coronavirus.

The man was taken to the hospital, where the authorities said further tests were carried out.

These had shown that the 83-year-old was "definitely" not infected with the corona virus.

The passengers could now leave the ship.

Singapore has been offering cruises "to nowhere" for around a month in order to revive the business that has collapsed due to the pandemic.

The idea turned out to be a hit with the residents who have not been able to travel for months.

Strict hygiene measures apply on board the ships.
