Chadwick Boseman was bowled over by the shooting of his latest film,

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

.

The actor, who died last August after a long battle with colon cancer, experienced some sequences of the film with emotion, as told by his colleague and casting partner Colman Domingo in an interview for the

Kelly Clarkson Show

.

“No one knew he was sick.

And I'm going to tell you this: Now that my friend Chad has passed away, I think I can put into perspective why he's played so many superheroes and iconic men in our culture.

It is because this man was really a shaman, he was really a king.

There was this moment that we shared.

We were shooting a scene about God's will, and there's these two characters, mine and his, struggling to figure out what God's will is and why bad things happen to good people.

And at one point, he couldn't finish the scene because it meant something real to him.

At that point, I saw that he was fighting something, and I had never done that before, but I said, "Tell me, tell me", and it exploded.

You will see this scene in the film, ”he said.

Superhuman strength

Even today, Colman Domingo fails to understand how Chadwick Boseman managed to turn despite the pain.

“I didn't know what he was struggling with, but it was a matter of faith that was in the play and George Wolfe, our phenomenal director, yelled 'let's cut' and we hugged and we cried (…) This man had superhuman strength.

The shoot was hard for me, so I don't know how he did it, ”added the

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom

, heralded as one of the great films of this year-end, with one of the best performances of Chadwick Boseman's too short career, is due out on Netflix on December 18th.
