At present, Dawei has a circumference of 83.86 kilometers and an area of ​​265.4 square kilometers.

  According to the Guangdong Provincial Department of Water Resources, the project was built during the Chongning and Daguan reigns of Huizong in the Northern Song Dynasty (1102 to 1110) and has a history of more than 900 years.

Its irrigation and drainage engineering system includes three parts: embankment, river gushing irrigation and drainage system, and Dou sluice control project. It is one of the largest foundation water conservancy projects in ancient China.

  According to Li Yunpeng, secretary-general of the Water Conservancy History Research Institute of the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society, responsible for the application, Sang Yuanwei has played an important role in irrigation, flood control and drainage, water transportation, maintenance of human settlements and good ecology, and promotion of economic and cultural development. The role has witnessed the history of the southward shift of China's economic center of gravity and the development of the Pearl River Delta region since the Tang and Song Dynasties, and has nurtured the unique Lingnan water village culture.

At the same time, the selection of Sang Yuanwei also expands the diversity of China's irrigation project heritage.

  Li Yongsheng, director of the Foshan Water Resources Bureau, said that Foshan is preparing a plan for the protection and utilization of the Sangyuanwei Irrigation Project Heritage. On the basis of systematic, scientific and effective protection of the Sangyuanwei Irrigation Project heritage, it combines rural revitalization, global tourism and Guangdong Wanli Bidao. Construction, further excavate the historical culture of Sangyuanwei water conservancy, and comprehensively promote the construction of Sangyuanwei into an ecological enclosure with a rich history, outstanding culture, safety, efficiency, harmony and beauty.

  It is reported that 19 projects including Zheng Guoqu, Dujiangyan and Lingqu have been selected into the World Irrigation Project Heritage List.
