Tochigi Prefecture and Utsunomiya City announced on the 7th that a total of 16 new people have been confirmed to be infected with the new coronavirus.



Nine of them are residents and staff of group homes in Sano City, and the prefecture is investigating the detailed situation as a group of infected people = clusters have occurred.

According to the prefecture and Utsunomiya City, a total of 16 men and women in their 20s and 90s were newly confirmed on the 7th, all of whom are currently mildly ill.



Of these, nine men and women in their 40s and 90s were related to a group home in Sano City, where three people, including staff and residents, had already been confirmed to be infected.



The total number of infected people related to this facility was 12, and the prefecture announced that a group of infected people = a cluster had occurred.



Last week, all the people involved were tested at this facility, and all but three were confirmed to be negative, but after that, there were some staff members who had symptoms, so when we tested again on the 7th, we found that there were four staff members. It means that the infection of 5 residents was confirmed.



The prefecture is investigating the situation inside the facility in detail and is also inspecting those who have no symptoms.



In addition, two women in their twenties and one woman in their thirties in Utsunomiya City are colleagues who work for the same company, and when the company requested a medical institution to undergo an examination, infection was confirmed.



In Tochigi prefecture, a total of 765 people have been confirmed to be infected.



In addition, the number of seriously ill people in the prefecture has increased by one to 11 in total.
