  Qiao Lin, born in 1992, is the 28th generation inheritor of the traditional handicraft skills of "Qiao's Fahua" ceramics in Yangcheng, Shanxi.

  On the 6th, Qiao Lin and her mother Qiao Xiangping were exchanging enamel skills with representatives of ceramic companies and craftsmen from all over the country.

  From December 5th to 6th, the first China·Jincheng (Yangcheng) Fahua Industrial High-level Academic Seminar was held in Yangcheng County, Jincheng City, Shanxi Province.

Three generations of Qiao Jiasheng, Qiao Xiangping, and Qiao Lin's grandparents actively displayed and promoted "Qiao's Fahua".

  Fahua is a kind of low-temperature glazed ceramics unique to ancient Shanxi, which evolved from colored glaze.

It started from Yuan Dynasty, flourished in Ming Dynasty, and ended in Qing Dynasty.

After Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty, the firing of enamels gradually ceased, and this superb craftsmanship has disappeared. A small number of enamels only exist in museums at home and abroad.

Fahua, which is as famous as the "Three Colors of the Tang Dynasty", is a kind of low-temperature glazed ceramics unique to ancient Shanxi, which evolved from colored glaze.

  In recent years, a group of Jincheng craftsmen and artists represented by Qiao Jiasheng, Qiao Xiangping, Zhang Yongyong, etc. have devoted themselves to the study of enamel reburning, recreating the glory of enamel, and opening the road to China's enamel revival.

  "Qiao's Fahua" inherited the aftertaste of Tang Sancai and Song Liaocai's legacy, continued the Qiao's colored glaze culture bloodline, and created a new field of ceramic production and decoration technology by virtue of the ceramic craftsmanship passed down from generation to generation, and made ceramic art glow with new vitality.

In 2011, "Qiao's Fahua Ceramics Traditional Handicrafts" was included in the list of representative items of intangible cultural heritage in Shanxi Province.

  In 2015, Qiao Lin finished her studies and returned to China and began to slowly take over the family business.

  She insists on the combination of inheritance and innovation, puts forward the new idea of ​​daily-use ceramic art, innovates and inherits the craftsmanship of "Qiao's enamel", integrates the local human landscape and natural landscape into enamel decoration, and develops enamel with local characteristics.   “I grew up in a ceramic factory and have a deep affection for ceramics.” Qiao Lin told reporters that before the replacement of ceramic products was slow, and now from modeling to decoration techniques, adding current popular elements to launch a variety of products.

  Nowadays, learning, participating in exhibitions, and promoting...have become the normal work of Qiao Lin, general manager of Yangcheng County Qiaofeng Ceramic Industry Co., Ltd.

  Qiao Lin believes that the development of Fahua's skills must be honest and innovative, and inherit the essence.

"We have opened a ceramic making experience hall to allow more people to cultivate interest in the experience process. We hope that more young people will join our traditional culture in the future."

65-year-old Qiao Xuesheng is making mud, while his apprentice Liang Xiaoban is busy repairing the mud.

  "My master has brought many apprentices. I usually make models in the workshop and come to the experience hall to teach children how to make ceramics in my spare time." Liang Xiaoban, 50 this year, hopes that he can bring more apprentices. After all, the inheritance and development of traditional culture depends on young people.

  When talking about the innovative development of Fahua's skills, Qiao Xiangping said that innovation can help traditional skills last forever.

  “We have just established the Yangcheng County Ancient Kiln Fahua Glazed Art Research Institute, aiming to promote the inheritance and development of Fahua’s skills, and can also go overseas for exhibitions and promotion.” Qiao Xiangping told reporters that in the future, overseas markets will be explored.
