17 minutes of Dylan in pandemic: 'Murder not foul'
The Universal Music group has announced the purchase of the rights to the complete catalog of Bob Dylan's songs, which
until now was managed by its main competitor
, Sony / ATV Music Publishing.
The hoard includes 600 Nobel Prize songs, composed over the past 60 years, from
Blowin 'in the wind
(released in 1962) to
Murder most foul
, released this year during the months of the pandemic.
Universal has not released what the price of the catalog is but the operation comes in
a highly inflationary market.
This year, Stevie Nicks, the Fletwood Mac singer-songwriter, raised $ 100 million for her songbook.
Dylan's will obviously cost more.
How much?
The New York Times
cites a figure close to $ 300 million (€ 247 million), following unidentified sources.
For reference: in 1985,
Michael Jackson bought The Beatles catalog for $ 45 million,
which, taking inflation into account, is equivalent to $ 109 million today;
a third of the estimated cost of Dylan's songbook.
Dylan, 79, has released 39 albums, sold 125 million copies and has been on an "endless tour" since 1988, to the rhythm of
more than 100 concerts a year
.
