Alain Fischer, the professor appointed by the government to drive his anti-Covid-19 vaccine strategy, intends to restore confidence in vaccination "by avoiding injunctions", while relying on the whole of society, he explained to

the Sunday Journal

.

For this professor of immunology and researcher in biology, the support of the population will be favored by “well-made, targeted, repeated messages, avoiding authoritative arguments, injunctions from health officials”.

"We can draw inspiration from what was done well in 2018 to support the vaccination obligation in children," he said, referring to the eight vaccines, previously recommended, made mandatory in children, in addition to three that already were.

This pediatrician relies on health professionals to inform the population: "general practitioners, pharmacists, liberal nurses".

“But to answer, these professionals must themselves have access to good information,” he added.

Vaccinated and vaccinated future ambassadors

"Then, it is possible that the vaccinated people become ambassadors of the vaccine", pleaded Professor Fischer.

“Civil society representatives and chronic disease patient associations also have an important role to play in building trust”.

The anti-Covid-19 vaccination is due to start in January in nursing homes (nursing homes) but this progress "must not appear as collective protection" likely to avoid a third wave, he warned.

“In the next three months”, vaccination “will affect 3 million people at best.

This will have no impact on the dissemination of the virus, ”explained the immunologist.

"During the holidays, it is essential to continue to follow all the measures of distancing, wearing of the mask, washing of hands, and to limit the meetings of family or friends".

Asked about a possible delay in France compared to the United Kingdom, where vaccination will be possible in the coming days, Professor Fischer replied that "we must give ourselves the time to assess and organize.

Better if it works by taking a few more weeks ”.

According to figures released on Friday by Public Health France, only half of those questioned in November intended to be vaccinated against Covid-19, against two-thirds in July.
