A very high duck mortality was recorded on Saturday in a farm in Benesse-Maremne (Landes).

The prefecture announced Sunday a "strong suspicion" of avian influenza within this farm, after the laboratory of the Pyrenees and the Landes, a public establishment which provides analysis missions, confirmed the presence of avian influenza type 5, indicates a press release.

The operation was placed under surveillance.

The suspected breeding is "in the process of preventive depopulation".

While waiting for the analysis results from the national reference laboratory, the prefecture has also delimited a temporary control zone covering several municipalities around this farm and on which "no poultry and no other captive bird should enter or leave the farms. »In order to limit contact with wild birds.

"Common source of contamination" identified in the North

Access to food, water, silos and food storage are also protected.

Movements of people, domestic mammals, vehicles and equipment to or from bird operations must be avoided.

If they are necessary, the prefecture asks to take "special precautions in terms of change of dress, parking of vehicles outside the breeding areas and cleaning and disinfection at the entry and exit of farms in order to 'avoid the risk of spreading infection'.

The level of risk for the entire Landes department remains "high", recalls the prefecture.

In mid-November, cases of avian flu had been detected in two pet stores in Corsica and one in Yvelines.

They are the result of a "common source of contamination" identified in an individual in the North, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
