A vehicle falls from a bridge at a height of 20 meters in Brazil

Sixteen people were killed and 27 others were injured when a bus fell from the top of a 20-meter-high bridge near the Joao Monlivade area in the state of Mina Gerais, southeast of Brazil.

The accident occurred due to a failure in the bus's brakes, and the vehicle carrying 46 people fell from the top of the bridge called "Ponte Torta".

Video footage released by the local police showed the bus, which was completely destroyed at the bottom of a valley.

Initial investigations indicated that the driver had lost control of the vehicle after a possible brake failure.

The ambulance teams indicated that "the driver was shouting that the brakes were not working, and the bus began to retreat back, and then hit iron obstacles at the end of the bridge."

Only 6 people managed to get out of the bus before it fell, including the driver, who has not yet been found.

The National Association of Public Transport stated, in statements reported by the local press, that the company to which the bus belongs does not have a passenger license.

In addition, the road on which the accident occurred is the one that witnesses the largest number of fatal accidents in all of Mina Gerais.
