Sometimes very dilapidated buildings that must be protected.

As part of a "cathedral plan" decided via the recovery plan decided by the Ministry of Culture thanks to the recovery plan, 5.8 million euros will be earmarked for the renovation of four buildings in the Pays-de- la-Loire, announces the prefecture.

These projects, which must be launched over the next two years and completed by 2024 at the latest, aim in particular to develop the attractiveness and attendance of these sites.

The cathedrals of Nantes, Angers, Le Mans and Luçon will therefore regain their splendor thanks to several projects.

The most expensive operation will take place in the Sarthe with the restoration of the Chapel of the Virgin in the cathedral of Le Mans, in 2021, for which 2.5 million euros will be devoted.

"It will include the restoration of the exteriors of this chapel, then the interiors, including the stained-glass windows, the murals representing musical angels and the furniture", indicates the prefecture.

Exceptional grant for the Château d'Angers

In Nantes, the sum of 650,000 euros will allow restoration of the apse of Saint-Pierre cathedral, which will be carried out in parallel with the restoration work linked to the fire of last July.

Other funding will be specifically released.

It should be noted that in Angers, in addition to the repair of the roof of the nave of the Saint-Maurice cathedral, major work will also concern the castle, with the restoration of the ramparts on the north side.

The work will take place between April 2021 and December 2022, for “an exceptional allocation” of 6.5 million euros.
