In conjunction with the celebrations of the 49th National Day of the UAE, the seventh edition of the Camel Trek - organized by the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for Heritage Revival - was launched from the Empty Quarter desert in Liwa in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

The participants had gathered in the heritage village in the global village in Dubai, last Saturday, and were transferred to the area designated for departure, so that the convoy began its journey to travel about 550 kilometers, within 10 days, to land at the same gathering place on the eighth of December.

The camel journey began early in the morning, accompanied by a new group of desert knights, who chose to learn about the heritage of the UAE, through the authentic heritage portal, and courageously proceed with a test of ability, reviving the ancient means of transportation on the backs of camels, and setting up tents to sleep between the sandy hillsides every night And the experience of life in the desert, without using modern technologies.

The Director of Events Department at the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for the Revival of Heritage, Hind bin Damithan Al Qamzi, indicated that despite the challenges posed by the Corona pandemic (Covid-19) to all institutions in the world, the center was able to organize the annual camel trip, which has become It enjoys wide popularity among citizens and others.

She said: “We have opened the door to training in the homestead since last July, amidst strict procedures, to ensure the safety of those who wish to learn to ride camels, in preparation for the second edition of the marathon of the camel heritage trip and the seventh edition of the camel trip.

We were keen to conduct the necessary checks before setting off, allocating separate tents for each participant, and directing the participants to the necessity of adhering to social distancing measures, wearing a mask, and continuous sterilization, in order to preserve the safety of everyone.

Ben Dimithan added: “Eleven participants from seven countries have qualified for this edition, and we also have a participant from last year who returned to participate this year with her own camel, after she bought it, raised it and rode it upon completion of the previous edition.

Her participation in the trip comes as an encouragement from the center for her eagerness and diligence to revive our local heritage.

The nationalities of the participants in this edition include: Germany, France, South Africa, Spain, the Czech Republic, Russia and the UAE ».

In addition, the 41-year-old French woman Anna Aiko revealed that she returned to participate for the second year in a row, and this time on her own camel, after she bought it after taking the trip last year, and said: “I got attached a lot to camel "And I bought my own ride, and this time it will be my companion on the trip."

Similar to past years, the journey began under the leadership of the CEO of the Hamdan Bin Mohammed Center for the Revival of Heritage, Abdullah Hamdan bin Dalmouk, who is considered one of its permanent participants, a consultant in local heritage, and is familiar with the rugged desert roads and areas, which require high skills, until the desert ships dock safely In the final harbor.
