Due to an "intense rainstorm episode", Météo-France placed three departments on orange vigilance, this Friday, for thunderstorms, rain and floods: the Pyrénées-Orientales, and the two Corsican departments, Haute-Corse and Corsica-du-Sud.

The three departments of southern France are affected by an intense rainstorm, which could last, Météo-France explained in its 6-hour bulletin.

Up to 250 mm of rain in Corsica

"The rainfall intensities are of the order of 20 to 40 mm in a short time" in the Pyrénées-Orientales, explains the organization.

“The expected accumulations are of the order of 70 to 120 mm from the Corbières to the foothills of the Pyrenees.

On the relief, they are of the order of 150 to 180 mm.

On the coastal plains, the accumulations are close to 40 to 70 mm.

On the Corsican side, “the rainfall intensities are close to 30 to 50 mm in a short time.

These showers and thunderstorms occur mainly on the east and south of the island.

They last all day Saturday, ”explains Météo-France.

The expected accumulations “are of the order of 50 to 80 mm on the eastern coast and in the plain, 100 to 150 mm on the relief and the eastern foothills of the island, locally 200 to 250 mm or even more.
