  • The decline in the epidemic can be seen in Pays-de-la-Loire, and especially in Loire-Atlantique.

  • Vigilance is, however, brought to the incidence rate of people over 65 and to the situation in nursing homes.

The downward trend continues for the coronavirus.

While the health situation has improved in France for ten days, the decline of the epidemic is being verified in the Pays-de-la-Loire.

In Loire-Atlantique, it is even "spectacular", in the words of the Regional Health Agency, Thursday.

It is true that the figures are rapidly melting: the incidence rate, which was 134 cases per 100,000 inhabitants ten days ago, fell to 67.3 on Friday (58 in Nantes metropolitan area, 85 for regional average).

Ditto for the positivity rate, which dropped to 8% in a few days ... So much so that the department is today positioned as the most spared in the region.

Difficult for the ARS to explain this particularity.

According to Dr Pierre Blaise, if the population density can explain that the epidemic skyrocketed when the virus resumed, it would also help people to be more aware of the risks, and avoid "points of contamination" .

“The young population had pulled the figures up in the department, notes Patricia Salomon, director of the territorial delegation of the ARS.

Closing the university had the opposite effect.

"

Vigilance in nursing homes

A trend which makes Jean-Jacques Coiplet, the director of the ARS, say that “the efforts are starting to pay off”.

However, it warns of a still high incidence rate among those over 65 (127 cases per 100,000).

"The effects of confinement are not yet visible in the nursing homes in the region, where we record 11 deaths per day on average", he adds, asking the population "not to lower their guard" on barrier gestures .

In addition, within a few days and if the situation allows it, non-urgent surgical operations could be rescheduled, also indicated the ARS.

To date, 276 Covid patients are still hospitalized in the department, including 39 in intensive care.
