The Prime Minister, Jean Castex, recalled Thursday: in places of worship, the gauge is limited to 30 people, due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

The bishop of Perpignan (Pyrénées-Orientales) evokes, in a press release published on the website of the diocese of Perpignan / Elne, a “deep injustice” regarding this decision, and invites the priests not to count the faithful in the churches.

"I take full responsibility"

“We remain incomprehensible in the face of such a decision, given that in our churches we have always scrupulously respected barrier gestures,” writes Norbert Turini.

However, we will respect this gauge imposed on us and we will ensure that the sanitary rules are strictly observed.

"

That said, the bishop asks the parish priests “not to set themselves up as 'accountants' for their Sunday assemblies and therefore not to reject, if this were the case, the 31st person and the following ones who would present themselves.

I take full responsibility for it and if necessary, I will answer personally to the public authorities.

"

Jean Castex said Thursday that the gauge would change "gradually, depending on the health situation and the deadline of December 15", specifying that "places of worship have been in France as elsewhere places of contamination".
