There were pictures that caused head shaking throughout Germany: Around 400 demonstrators walked Wednesday night without masks and observing the distance rules through the streets of the small town of Hildburghausen in Thuringia and sang loudly “Oh, how beautiful!” And that, although Hildburghausen had an incidence value of currently 629.8 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants is such a massive corona hotspot that the Robert Koch Institute had to introduce a new warning color to label it with pink.
Fortunately, however, it is now clear what motivated the demonstrators to sing a typical football song while they were putting their own health and that of others at risk with their march through the city: They articulated the hope that they would soon be playing with the greatest kicker idol of all time to be.
Corona infection as an entry ticket
Because it was probably not for nothing that the demonstration march in the small town of Thuringia started moving just as the news of the death of the exceptional Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona made the rounds.
