Teropaïpaï

  • Teropaïpaï is a board game launched by four friends Daniel, Hugo, Théo and Gaël who want to demystify and clear up gardening.

  • The game includes cards (event, resource, question) which are all made in France.

  • It is available for pre-order on the Ulule platform until Tuesday evening and will then go on sale on the Dr. Jonquille & Mr. Ail site.

What if the health crisis had (re) made the French want to take an interest in gardening?

In any case, it is in this logic that Daniel, Théo, Hugo and Gaël, childhood friends and creators of the start-up Dr. Jonquille & Mr. Ail, launched Teropaïpaï, a 100% gardening board game.

Since mid-October, the game has been available for pre-order on the Ulule participatory platform until Tuesday evening.

“We were originally in Toulouse, but since June, everything logistics has been done in Nantes so we can say that we are new to Nantes,” smiles Gaël, co-founder of Teropaïpaï.

With his three childhood friends, they founded a website that offers seeds and organic seeds.

But in March 2019, these thirties wanted to embark on another adventure: create a board game to "dust off the old image of gardening".

Teropaïpaï: earth, water and straw

“We found that there was a global problem in the way we provide information on gardening.

It was really frustrating not to understand the language and we wanted to popularize all that.

We started a crusade against prejudices, ”says Gaël.

The name Teropaïpaï was born from the three resources needed to grow plants: soil, water and straw.

The first prototype of the game was released in March 2019. After some tests and multiple modifications to perfect the combinations, the final version was launched this summer.

“We said to ourselves that with a board game, there was nothing better to learn and have fun at the same time.

We play individually but we can have fun linking up against someone, explains Gaël.

It's a strategic game where we laugh a lot.

"

"Attacks of aphids, slugs ..."

Teropaïpaï allows 2 to 8 players around the table and all moves are allowed to win the game which lasts nearly 40 minutes.

The aim of the game ?

To be the best gardener.

“At the very beginning of the game, we have missions that have to be carried out during the game.

The goal is to grow plants and for that, there must be "resource" cards.

But you have to combine your cards to avoid the blows of others such as attacks by aphids, slugs ... "

So associate your plants well, and pay attention to the strategy of other players.

Also educational, the game includes a hundred questions on the theme of plants, the vegetable garden and gardening in general.

“So far we've had great feedback so we're really happy”.

Cards made in France

“Our priority was to have cards made in France,” says Gaël.

It's done with a manufacturer located near Lyon.

In addition to being designed in the metropolitan area, the cards are also "responsible" since the paper and cardboard used for the game are FSC certified (sustainably managed forests).

“We want to reduce our carbon footprint as much as possible.

"

The rest of the game accessories were made in Italy.

“We did not manage to source them in France but we are happy to have found Italians to do so.

It stays close to home.

In all fairness, we had been contacted by Chinese to make the game, so it was a hell of a lot less expensive, but a lot less fun.

"

"We did not expect such a success"

For the moment, the game, which costs 31.90 euros (shipping costs included) is only available on Ulule.

At the end of the campaign, which ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, it will go on sale on the four friends' website.

“We had a goal of 300 pre-orders.

Today we are at 1,300 so I think we can say that it is won.

We did not expect such success.

"

One way to have fun during the holidays and also during confinement… “At the first confinement there are a lot of people who started to create their vegetable garden, to take an interest in plants.

We clearly saw and felt it.

And now a board game is also nice.

It allows you to think about something else and avoid watching too much TV and bad news.
