The ammunition dates from the First World War, said the gendarmes.

The latter also shared the photo of the shell on their Facebook page.

Deminers deactivate ammunition

Surprisingly, the object is engraved.

A peculiarity which is explained by the fact that, during the war, the shells were recovered on the battlefields.

They were then engraved by soldiers, previously cabinetmakers or blacksmiths, in the trenches or infirmaries.

The deminers intervened on Tuesday, November 17.

They moved the shell to a building near the house where the projectile was found.

The professionals then deactivated it.

It is not uncommon for individuals to find shells in Seine-Maritime.

In October, a shell was found at a site in Lubrizol.

This summer, about twenty ammunition had been discovered in two months on the same beach.
