Hungary and Poland found themselves this Thursday under pressure from Europeans, exasperated by their stubbornness to block their post-Covid recovery plan, a few hours from a videoconference summit at twenty-seven.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban could play for time because he knows that the countries of the South urgently need the recovery plan.

A dangerous game since Warsaw and Budapest, the main net beneficiaries of European funds, also have a lot to lose.

The analysis by Jérôme Creel, director of the studies department of the French Observatory of Economic Conjunctures (OFCE-Sciences Po) and associate professor of economics at ESCP.
