On November 18th, the Hong Kong Palace Museum of Culture held a roofing ceremony for the structure of the building on the shore of Victoria Harbour.

Construction of this landmark building in Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District officially started in April 2019 and is scheduled to be completed in November 2021. The 25th anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to China will be officially opened to the public in mid-2022.

Now this project is entering a later stage of mechanical and electrical installation, exterior wall, interior finishing and peripheral works, and has entered a peak period in an all-round way. It is also the final sprint and preparation for the final completion.

The overall project goal is to be completed by the end of next year (2021). After the completion of the project, there will be a trial operation for about half a year to start a stage of commissioning.

The entire museum is expected to be officially put into operation in the middle of 2022 and can be opened to the public.

[Explanation] On June 29, 2017, under the witness of President Xi Jinping, the Hong Kong West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Palace Museum held a signing ceremony for the "Cooperation Agreement on the Construction of the Hong Kong Palace Museum".

As the first overseas project of the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Hong Kong Palace Museum has been responsible for cultural heritage since its inception. Therefore, its space design also incorporates many traditional Chinese cultural elements.

The whole design of it is a design of "wide upper and lower poly, virtual top and solid bottom", which is more like our traditional Chinese tripod. This design is also very clever. There is a golden aluminum plate design on the outside, which is modeled on the Forbidden City. With such a concept of glazed tiles, we also have a red door at the front entrance, which is 12 meters wide and 4 meters high, which echoes the door of the Forbidden City.

On the platform in front of us, there is a glass translucent design. Its curved arc is the same as that of the Golden Water Bridge of the Forbidden City in Beijing. It was copied. The whole design embodies a combination of Chinese and Western elements.

The exterior is a very modern building with a lot of elements from the Forbidden City in Beijing.

[Explanation] According to reports, the design of the Hong Kong Palace Museum is inspired by the progressive plan of the central axis of the Forbidden City in Beijing, creating a vertically progressive internal structure of the atrium, with a 7,600 square meter exhibition hall and a speech that can accommodate more than 400 people. Halls, and other facilities such as activity rooms, restaurants, shops.

[Explanation] Since the official start of construction in April 2019, the Hong Kong Palace Museum project has been under intensive construction.

At the end of 2019, a new crown pneumonia epidemic hit the world. In the face of supply chain interruption and construction difficulties, the project team formed a set of its own innovative epidemic prevention production system based on the actual situation to ensure the smooth progress of the construction.

[Concurrent] Wang Yong, Assistant General Manager of China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd.

The entire epidemic prevention network system, to summarize, is that we have an early warning mechanism, two tracking systems, three isolation measures, and four designated actions.

We will summarize the information of all our personnel. Once the government announces the specific situation of the epidemic every day, we will conduct a timely investigation.

The second is to say that we try to use grid management in the management of the site, because we have more than 800 people starting work during the peak period. We divide each plane of all locations into 9 blocks, we have a total of 7 floors, about 72 In a separate network, all workers are divided into groups and try to be fixed in this area for construction, so that once a problem occurs, the scope of the impact will be controlled very small.

So far, no confirmed case (case) has been found in our site, and no day has been suspended due to this epidemic.

[Explanation] As construction workers on the site, Xu Yongliang and Qiu Baisen have both visited the Palace Museum in Beijing, and participated in the construction of the Hong Kong Palace Museum. Apart from their excitement, they also admitted that they had the honor to witness the innovation and development of Beijing Palace Museum culture in Hong Kong. , I hope to visit the museum with my family and friends after completion.

  [Concurrent] Qiu Bosen, site foreman

I definitely feel very honorable. I have also participated in this project, so I am definitely stepping into this place again, as a tourist, to enter here, I must feel very deep, that is, my heart must be very surging.

I have also been to the Forbidden City in Beijing. Compared with this, the Forbidden City in Beijing is definitely larger than here, but the design here is more inclined to innovation, and we also have to develop with the times.

I also hope that the exhibits from Beijing can come to Hong Kong, so that our citizens of Hong Kong and other international tourists can come here to see many of our ancient Chinese cultural relics.

  [Concurrent] Worker Xu Yongliang

For me, I have been to the Forbidden City in Beijing when I was a child, and I visited with my parents and sisters, because all I saw in Hong Kong were stones and buildings. I rarely saw those older things. So when I was young, I felt very moved.

After returning to Hong Kong, I have never had the opportunity to see it again, so now I have the opportunity to build this museum.

So I'm thinking that in the future, I might be able to find those touches when I come here again with my children, my children's children, and my children's children.

We have agreed, and this (museum) will be completed in the future, and we will all take our family to visit here.
