"His talented works have enriched the palette of domestic and world theatrical art, have become a bright, unique phenomenon in the cultural life of our country and other states," the message says.

Putin noted that the bright memory of the director will forever remain in the hearts of his friends, associates, students and all admirers of his talent.

Viktyuk died on November 17 at the age of 84.

At the end of October, he was hospitalized with a coronavirus infection.

In his theater, the cause of death was called thromboembolism.
