The University of California grants $ 73 million to women who have been molested by a doctor who works for them

The University of California, USA, has reached a settlement, whereby it will pay $ 73 million to women who have suffered sexual harassment at the hands of a doctor working with the university.

The university is now awaiting a federal judge's approval of the settlement between the university and the attorneys representing the 6,000 women who have been ill with James Hipes, according to the Associated Press.

Hibbs worked at the University's Medical Center between 1983 and 2018, during which time he was accused of harassing more than 200 women he examined under the umbrella of medical work.

The story began in the summer of 2019, when Hibbs was convicted of beating and sexual assault of a female patient, after which 200 women came forward and informed the university that they had been exposed to similar cases during their experiences with him.

The charges include inappropriate comments, touching women sexually during exams without wearing gloves, and using an ultrasound machine in a sexual manner.

The university’s women's settlement is a separate case from the Hibbs trial, which is due to be completed in December.
