  • The weekly epidemiological points of Public Health France make it possible to have a closer follow-up, and over one week, of the main indicators of the health crisis.

  • Incidence, hospitalizations, resuscitation ... Some figures for November 12 give hope for an improvement in the coming weeks.

A glow at the end of the tunnel?

The weekly epidemiological update of Thursday, November 12, deciphered by the experts of Public Health France this Friday, finally gives some signs of improvement in the health crisis.

Indeed, for the first time since mid-July, the number of new positive cases for Covid-19 is falling: - 14%.

This suggests that the restrictive measures, curfews then confinement, are starting to bear fruit on the incidence.

Hospitalizations and deaths

A slight improvement that will take time to reach hospitals.

Indeed, hospitalizations in general and in intensive care continue to increase, but significantly less than the previous week.

Let us recall all the same that the figures of hospitalizations and admissions in intensive care are still very high today: as Jean Castex recalled during his press conference on Thursday evening, “we have, in recent days, been hospitalized every day. 30 seconds and one entry into intensive care every 3 minutes ”.

The number of deaths continues to increase quite sharply: + 29% in one week.

This is not surprising since we have fluctuated in recent days between 400 and 500 deaths per day from Covid-19.

Mental health and prevention

This epidemiological point is once again interested in the mental health of the French.

And the data is, unsurprisingly, not particularly reassuring.

The number of people suffering from depression has doubled in a month and a half, from 11% in late September to 21% in early November.

The French people most affected by these disorders are those declaring a very difficult financial situation, having a history of psychological disorders, the inactive and the young.

Finally, the last interesting point addressed in this report: the relationship to preventive actions.

The Coviprev study (carried out every month) shows that in November, social interactions decreased significantly.

In detail, we see that not everyone does not strictly comply with containment and barrier measures.

Thus, men between 35 and 49 years old respect confinement less, and men between 25 and 34 years old wear the mask less in public than the rest of the French.
