A photo of the killer of the teacher Samuel Paty, beheaded on October 16 in Conflans-Saint-Honorine, was found in the cell phone of the assailant of the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice, said the anti-terrorism prosecution (Pnat) this Friday.

The exploitation of Brahim Aouissaoui's phone also revealed an audio message qualifying France as a “country of disbelievers” and “photographs relating” to the Islamic State group, added the prosecution.

A judicial investigation is opened for "assassinations and attempted assassinations in connection with a terrorist enterprise".

No evidence of contacts at this stage

Even if the photograph of Abdoullakh Anzorov, author of the Conflans-Sainte-Honorine attack, was found in his phone, "it has not been determined any operational contacts of the person likely to have facilitated his passage. to the act ”, specified the Pnat.

The prosecution indicates that the investigation should focus on "verifying whether he could benefit from any complicity or any support in his criminal project".

Since the start of the investigation, eleven people have already been taken into police custody and released.

The attacker, born in March 1999 and who tested positive for Covid-19, is hospitalized in the “Paris region” and remains in the “inaudible” state, also indicates the prosecution.

He had been seriously wounded by bullets by municipal police.

Spotting in front of the basilica?

Brahim Aouissaoui had left clandestinely in mid-September the city of Sfax, in central Tunisia, where he lived with his family and worked as a motorcycle repairer.

After crossing the Mediterranean and arriving on the Italian island of Lampedusa, he was reportedly placed in quarantine with nearly 400 migrants on the "Rhapsody" ferry, before disembarking on the mainland at Bari, in the south-east of Italy, October 9.

A source close to the investigation had also specified that he then went to Sicily, before joining France.

The investigation was able to determine that he had arrived in Nice on Tuesday October 27, two days before the attack on the basilica.

According to video surveillance, on the 28th, "he walked around on foot four times around the Notre-Dame basilica in Nice, notably sitting in front of this basilica", indicates the Pnat.
