Manal Ataya: The UAE is using its soft power to have a positive influence

The Director General of the Sharjah Museums Authority, Manal Ataya, affirmed that the UAE is benefiting from soft power as an effective and essential tool to positively influence others, using culture and art, by organizing and hosting various events that bring people from different parts of the world together “because culture simply connects people.” .

This came during Ataya’s participation in the electronic seminars of the Arab Forum for Cultural Heritage, which was held under the title “Authenticity, Society and Heritage Preservation in Arab Thought,” and organized by “ICCROM - Regional Office for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage in the Arab World” in Sharjah.

Ataya explained that opening new museums with expanded programs, investing in art and culture, and embracing branches of international universities, is the way in which the UAE strengthens cultural diplomacy, and highlighted how museums under the management of the Sharjah Museums Authority are as easily accessible places and platforms for soft power. By providing opportunities for communities and individuals to meet, exchange ideas, and explore similarities and convergences.

Ataya said: “The United Arab Emirates is actively benefiting from soft power as an essential tool for positively promoting culture and the arts, and enhancing its spread and appreciation by organizing major art events, shows and exhibitions, which bring people together just because culture connects people and inspires new thinking and better understanding.”

Ataya concluded by saying: “At the Sharjah Museums Authority, we continue our work with determination and steadfastness towards strengthening our social and educational role in preserving, developing and encouraging cultural diversity, because of its strong impact on uniting people, strengthening social cohesion locally and internationally and removing barriers.”

It is noteworthy that the Sharjah Museums Authority has signed a number of memoranda of understanding with its counterpart from all over the world, in order to promote intercultural dialogue, such as the agreement with the Egyptian Museum and the “Museo Igisu” Museum in Italy, in addition to signing an agreement with the Berlin Museums Group, the largest museum complex. In Germany, the Goethe-Institut, the famous cultural institution of the Federal Republic of Germany, which has branches all over the world, to promote cooperation in the field of museum studies, and to promote intercultural dialogue through the exchange of collections, works of art and culture.
