Barely the announcement of a possible effective vaccine against Covid-19 by Pfizer and BioNtech, Yannick Jadot sets foot in the dish.

The ecologist MEP said on Tuesday that he was in favor of making this vaccine compulsory.

"Yes", answered the elected EELV on franceinfo to a question on the obligation of a vaccination against the coronavirus.

“From the moment the vaccine is there, I hope everyone will go for the vaccine,” he added.

"I have no doubt" that EELV is "in favor of vaccination", continued Yannick Jadot.

"We cannot afford today to extend the period of confinement, the period of cultural, social, economic collapse of our country," he pleaded.

59% of French people in favor of the vaccine

According to an Ipsos poll published in September, France is among the countries where the intention to use the vaccine is the lowest.

They would thus be only 59% to be vaccinated against Covid-19 in France, against 74% at the global level.

MEP EELV hailed "the hope" that Monday's announcements gave rise to, seeing it as "the beginning of a perspective", but called on "the French not to relax their efforts" because "today ' hui, what saves us are the (health) rules and it is not the vaccine, which will arrive, we hope, in a few months ”.

Win the “support” of the population

The boss of LR deputies, Damien Abad, declared himself in favor of "a massive vaccination campaign" if the vaccine has "high reliability".

"This does not mean a compulsory vaccine for every French person, but it does mean a vaccine widely distributed and certainly compulsory for a certain number of people, called fragile, vulnerable" and nursing staff.

"There must be the support of the population for the vaccine" and not "fall into a debate between vaccine-skeptics and vaccinophiles", added Damien Abad during a press briefing at the National Assembly .

On Monday, the American laboratories Pfizer and German BioNTech affirmed that their vaccine candidate was "90% effective" against Covid-19, according to the large-scale phase 3 trial underway, the last step before an application for approval.
