Delaying cancer treatment for one month would increase mortality by 6 to 13%.

This alarming figure comes from a study published on November 4 in the

British Medical Journal

.

However, during the vague period of confinement, many patients saw their appointments sometimes postponed, or canceled, sometimes for fear of going to hospitals.

In order not to have a

during new confinement, doctors from the Toulouse University Cancer Institute call on patients to keep their appointment.

In a press release, the Oncopole recalls that any delay, in the diagnosis phase as in the course of treatment, can be detrimental.

To support their point, practitioners refer to the Dutch study published in 

The Lancet Oncology.

 According to its authors, there was a drop in the number of cancers diagnosed in the spring, correlated with the first wave and the confinement causing the cancellation or postponement of many oncology consultations.

The IUCT therefore wants to reassure its patients and ensure that their treatment, whether in chemotherapy or immunotherapy, continues in compliance with health protection rules.
